This collection documents the life of Louisa Adams as I have found her throughout history post-slavery. She was emancipated at the age of 7/8 and went on to marry James H. (Harrington) Adams and become a mother and grandmother. These censuses and vital records show Louisa from 1870 residing in Richmond County, North Carolina to her death in 1945 in Wake County, North Carolina.

Marriage Certificate
This documents the marriage of Louisa Covington and James Harrington (Adams) by James Covington in Rockingham township.

1880 Census
This enumeration of Louisa Harrington, aged 22, as being married to JH Harrington, with a son, HW Harrington, all residing in Richmond County, North Carolina.

1870 Census
This 1870 Census account shows Louisa Adams nee Covington as a 14 year old in the home of Jacob & Easter Covington (her parents). Her enumeration can be found on line 18.

1910 Census
This document shows Louisa Adams with her husband, son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren. She is documented on line 67. The family is now residing in Wake County, North Carolina and Louisa has learned to read by 1910 in comparison to the census…

Husband's death certificate
This death certificate shows information about the cause of death for Louisa's husband, and shows that there was a name change that happened from Harrington to Adams (as his parents are both documented as Harringtons).

1920 Census
This entry notates her as "Luzetta Adams" living in the household with several family members. Her entry can be seen on line 34.

1930 Census
This census shows Louisa Adams on line 68 as a servant/washerwoman of Moses Land in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.
